Our team at Mehta Orthodontics want to ensure you and your braces get off to a good start on your journey to achieving a beautiful smile. You will get to know your braces quite well in the first few months, so here are some tips for you and your braces to develop the best relationship.
- Avoid sticky or hard foods. It is important not to eat hard chewy lollies such as toffees, caramels, minties, and other sticky treats, while you have braces. Sticky or hard foods can break a bracket or wire, so it is best to avoid them for the duration of your treatment.
- Chew with your back teeth. Using your front teeth to bite into a large piece of food can damage or even break your braces, we always recommend cutting up food into smaller pieces and chewing on the back teeth. Examples include apples, corn on the cob and crusty bread.
- Wear elastic bands and headgear as instructed. Failing to comply with wearing your headgear and elastics may increase the length of your treatment. Wear them as instructed to avoid prolonging your treatment.
If something does happen to your braces, please don’t hesitate to contact us on 8883 4444. The staff at Mehta Orthodontics are always happy to talk to you and see you if necessary.
