Although our team at Mehta Orthodontics can enhance a smile at any age, there is an ideal time period to begin treatment for children. It is recommended that the initial orthodontic consultation should occur at the first sign of orthodontic problems or no later than age 8. You can book directly by calling us and you do not need a referral. However, if your dentist has provided you with a referral, then please bring it to your initial consultation.
At this early age, orthodontic treatment for kids may not be necessary, but an examination can anticipate the best time to begin treatment. Early orthodontic treatment ensures the greatest result and overall supervision.
Early treatment is defined as treatment provided before the full set of permanent teeth have erupted and, in some cases, can start in children as early as 7-8 years of age. The objective of early treatment is to prevent or minimise more problems later.
Our team at Mehta Orthodontics specialise in caring for patients who may benefit with early treatment which may include braces for kids. There are many options to customise your kid’s braces, including both metal and clear braces, with fun shapes and a variety of colours for kids who are beginning their orthodontic braces journey with us.
Early treatment could include management of upper airway obstruction, a habit appliance, an expansion plate, orthopaedic appliances for growth modification or partial braces for children. Expansion plates and orthopaedic appliances are a type of ‘no braces’ option for kids which require regular wear and compliance, whilst under a growth monitoring and guidance program. Orthodontic treatment of both children and adults is customised to each patient’s needs and therefore the cost of braces may vary accordingly.
